Statue at Sheldonian Theatre: Oxford, England
The D-shaped Sheldonian Theatre at the University of Oxford is partially surrounded by a wrought-iron gate and several “head” statues on columns, just like this one shown above. The building hosts concerts, lectures and ceremonies.
The theatre was built between 1664 and 1668 by Sir Christopher Wren, widely considered to be the greatest architect in the history of England. Wren was also a physicist, astronomer, mathematician and geometer, and Sir Isaac Newton and Blaise Pascal both praised the Englishman’s work.
I took this photograph while visiting the university in 2006.
